A policeman was killed when a fellow policeman opened fire at him while performing duty in the capital's Baridhara late on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Monirul Islam, a constable of the police.

The incident took place in front of the Palestinian Embassy in Dhaka.

Another pedestrian was injured in the incident, said Mazarul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station.

Following the incident, police detained Constable Kawsar Ahmed in connection with the shooting and cordoned off the area.
