Flood death toll rises to 27, over 1.2m families affected

The death toll from the devastating flood has risen to 27, with at least 1,207,429 families adversely affected across seven districts in the country as of Tuesday.

Faruk E Azam, disaster management and relief adviser came up with the figures while addressing a press conference over the country’s overall flood situation at his secretariat office in Dhaka this afternoon.

The highest number of fatalities in the floods so far took place in Comilla, where 10 people have lost their lives, he said.

Apart from this, five people were killed each in Chattogram and Noakhali, three in Cox’s Bazar and one each in Feni, Khagrachari, Brahmanbaria and Lakshmipur while two people remain missing in Moulvibazar.

During the briefing, Farooq said over 5,9,728 people along with 34,421 cattle including domestic animals were taken to 3,886 flood shelter centres in the flood districts.

Besides, 620 medical teams are working to provide health support to the flood victims in 11 affected districts, he said.

The flood-affected areas have been brought under the coverage of relief work with the help of the members of the Bangladesh Army, Faruk, who is also a freedom fighter, said.
