DHAKA: The High Court on Monday issued a rule against Awami League leader ASM Firoz seeking explanation of retaining him lawmaker for his alleged involvement in loan defaulting.

An HC bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice M Habibul Gani issued the rule after a primary hearing of a writ petition filed in this connection.

Mayor Ziaul Haque of Bauphal municipality of Patuakhali district filed the writ petition with the HC.

Barrister Rafiq-ul Haque moved for the writ petitioner in the court and Barrister ABM Siddiqur Rahman assisted him.

Deputy Attorney General M Mokhlesur Rahman moved for the state.
