US senate hearing Tuesday night

DHAKA: The US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations is set to hold a hearing on the prospects for democratic reconciliation and workers` rights in Bangladesh on Tuesday night.

According to its website, the hearing, to be presided over by Chairman of US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Senator Robert Menendez, will be held around 9:00pm (Bangladesh Time) at Senate Dirksen 419.

Nisha Desai Biswal, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affair, Eric Biel, Acting Associate Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs, Bureau of International Labor Affairs, Lewis Karesh, Assistant US Trade Representative for Labor will speak at the first panel.

While Scott Nova, Worker Rights Consortium and Witness Signatory to the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh, Ellen Tauscher, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety, Kalpona Akter, Executive Director of Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity will present their hearing.

This hearing is scheduled to be live webcast.
