‘Stringent security for minorities’

DHAKA: The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed, said that special security measures will be in place for the safety of minority communities during the upcoming Upazila polls.
 
He made the announcement after meeting Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Police Superintendents (SPs) and district polling officers at NEC auditorium in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Wednesday.

The CEC said that special security will be provided during the polls so that the minority communities can exercise their franchise fearlessly.

Kazi Rakibuddin explained that the objective of the meeting with district officials was to hold free and fair Upazila polls.
 
He also hoped that the people will participate in the upcoming polls in a festive mood.

About Dhaka City Corporations polls, Rakibuddin Ahmed said that they are pushing the issue forward and it will be arranged accordingly.

The first phase of Upazila Parisad elections will begin in 97 upazilas on February 19.
 
EC secretary Dr Mohammad Sadik, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed joined the meeting.
