RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi Medical College authorities temporarily expelled seven Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders, including RMC-unit general secretary Ashiqur Rahman, for six months for their alleged involvement in campus violence.

The RMC students facing the disciplinary action couldn’t sit for their ongoing Second Professional MBBS examination Tuesday, campus sources said.

Official sources said the suspension decision was taken in an academic council meeting with RMC principal Dr. Abdul Hannan in the chair on Monday night.

Among the other suspended leaders of the pro-government student organisation are Parvez, Moon, Nahid and Titu.

“The academic council meeting took the decision on the basis of probe findings on the allegations against the Chhatra League leaders about their involvement in the clash on June 20 centering the formation of dental council,” an RMC official said.

A student named Tanvir Alam was severely injured during the BCL factional clash—a common phenomenon these days, as rivals in the student outfit of the ruling Awami League remained at loggerheads in many other educational institutions.

In a backlash against the incident, college students later manhandled the RMC principal and had put his office under lock and key.

Principal Dr. Abdul Hannan confirmed banglanews24.com.bd about the academic council’s decisions on disciplinary action against the student politicos.

Shortly after the expulsion decision on Monday night, the RMC BCL general secretary said, “We are not aware about the decision. We are taking preparation for tomorrow’s examination.”
