Fire at particle factory godown in Narayanganj leaves 50 injured

NARAYANGANJ:  A devastating fire gutted a particleboard mill on Monday night at Haripur of Bandar thana in the district, leaving at least 50 people injured in the blaze.

Fire Service officials said 12 fire-firefighting units from Narayanganj, Hajiganj, Bandar, Rupganj, Demra and Ramna drove in to the spot and brought the fire under control at Star Particleboard factory.

The CEO of the factory, MK Ali, said the fire might have originated from electric short-circuit. “The fire left goods worth crores of taka burned.”

One of the labourers of the factory, giving an eyewitness account of the blaze, said, “The fire broke out from a blast of a machine.”

Of the injured, two were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Factory physician Aminul Islam said he treated over 50 people with burn injuries.
