For the second consecutive day, students in Magura staged a protest outside the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, demanding the death penalty for those involved in the rape of an eight-year-old girl.
Chanting slogans such as “In my golden Bengal, there is no place for rapists”, demonstrators voiced their outrage and called for swift justice.
On Monday morning (March 10), a procession started from Government Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy College and moved towards the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, where protesters gathered at the main gate, blocking the entrance.
The demonstration has brought traffic on College Road and Keshabpur Road to a standstill, with members of the general public also joining the protest.
Sadia Sultana, speaking on behalf of the protesters, accused authorities of handling the case in secrecy, saying, “The rapist was brought to court in the dark of night and remanded. We demand strict punishment and an example must be set so that no one dares to commit such crimes in the future.”
The students further urged lawyers to ensure a fair and rigorous trial, emphasizing that justice must be served without delay.
