The Bangladesh Army has strongly condemned recent reports by certain Indian media outlets, including The Economic Times and India Today, which claimed a possible coup and a breakdown in the army’s chain of command.
The army has termed these reports baseless and part of a deliberate disinformation campaign aimed at harming Bangladesh’s stability and reputation.
In a statement, the army assured that it remains strong, united, and fully committed to its constitutional duties under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff. It emphasized that the chain of command is intact and all senior officials are loyal to the constitution, the chain of command, and the people of Bangladesh. Any claim suggesting otherwise is completely false and misleading.
The army also pointed out that The Economic Times has a history of spreading such misinformation, referring to similar false reports published on January 26, 2025. The statement added that some online portals and television channels have also contributed to the spread of these fabricated stories, raising concerns about their credibility and intent.
The Bangladesh Army urged media outlets, particularly those in India, to follow ethical journalism and verify information with the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) before publishing reports. The ISPR remains available to provide accurate and official statements regarding the army.
Reaffirming its dedication to protecting Bangladesh’s sovereignty, integrity, and security, the army called on all media to act responsibly and avoid spreading false narratives that create unnecessary confusion and tension.
