Three people, including two school students, were killed when a bus crashed into a battery-powered autorickshaw in Dohazari, Chandanaish of Chattogram on Thursday morning.
The accident occurred around 8:30 am when a Chattagram-bound Purabi Paribahan bus struck the autorickshaw from behind, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Waqar Uddin Adil, 12, and Umme Habiba Rizvi, 15—both students of Dohazari Public School and College and children of Jasim Uddin from Jamizuri, and autorickshaw driver, Ruhul Amin, 45.
Another passenger, 15-year-old Kazi Fahmida Washima Tushin, a ninth-grade student, sustained serious injuries.
Dohazari Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shuvo Ranjan Chakma confirmed that the bus had been seized, but the driver and helper fled the scene.
Following the accident, enraged locals blocked the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway in protest, disrupting traffic in the area.
