Three friends were killed after a speeding truck ran over their motorcycle in the Dharmokam area of Shahbandegi union, Sherpur upazila of Bogura.

The crash occurred on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway on Wednesday evening (March 12).

The victims have been identified as Naeem Islam (21), son of Badsha Mia; Rifat Rahman (22), son of Liton; and Selim Hossain (22), son of Siddique—all residents of Koyerkhali village in Khanpur union.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the three friends had gone to Sherpur in the afternoon and were returning home at high speed during iftar. As they attempted to overtake a private car, they lost control, causing the motorcycle to overturn and throwing them onto the highway. Moments later, a truck coming from behind ran over them before fleeing the scene.

Critically injured, the three were rushed to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced Naeem dead. Selim and Rifat, both unconscious, were transferred to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Selim succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival, while Rifat passed away around 10:30 pm.

Sherpur Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azizul Haque confirmed the matter.

He said that the bodies would be handed over to their families after completing legal formalities. 

Efforts are ongoing to trace the truck and its driver, he added.
