The Appellate Division has ruled that headmasters of government primary schools across Bangladesh will be entitled to 10th-grade status, aligning with the benefits of second-grade officials.
A bench led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed issued the verdict on Thursday (March 13), following a review petition filed by the state.
The ruling upholds an earlier High Court verdict on the matter.
On 25 February, 2019 the HC passed the order during the final hearing on a writ petition filed by 45 school teachers including Government Primary School Headmaster's Association president Riaz Parvez.
The court ordered the government to notify the 45 petitioner headmasters' (trained and untrained) names in official gazette as second-class government officers and upgrade their pay scale to 10th grade.
Senior lawyer Barrister Salauddin Dolan, who represented the teachers, confirmed that headmasters will receive the corresponding facilities and benefits retroactively from March 9, 2014.
