3 ferries stranded for 8 hours on Mawa-Kawrakandi river route

MADARIPUR: Three ferries with 70 vehicles aboard ran aground on a shoal in Hazra channel on the Mawa-Kawrakandi route Friday.

Movement of ferries through the channel remained suspended for eight hours after the three, including two Ro-Ro ferries, remained stranded since 8am with hundreds of passengers and vehicles on board, officials said.

BIWTC Assistant Managing Director Ashiquzzaman told banglanews24.com.bd, “Rescue operation continued till 4pm.”
 
Ferrying people and vehicles on the route was restored after the vessels were salvaged at 4pm, the sources said.
