CHAPAINAWABGANJ: State Minister for Home Affairs Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku Friday said the three arrested top Jamaat leaders would not be put in the dock of the War Crimes Tribunal right now.

“Though Motiur Rahman Nizami, Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed and Delwar Hossain Sayedee are identified war criminals, the allegations against them are under investigation. The matter depends on the report of the probe committee,” said the state minister while visiting 39 Rifles Battalion Headquarters here.

He alleged the main opposition BNP is trying to save the war criminals, saying, “They are out to make the country unstable through various programmes.”

The state minister mentioned a “close link” of Jamaat with the militant groups and said apprehension of militant attacks in the country due to the arrest of three top-brass Jamaat leaders could not be ruled out.

“The law-enforcing agencies have been put on alert and security tightened across the country to thwart any militant attacks,” he informed.

State Minister for Energy and Power Brig. (Retd) Enamul Haq, local MP Abdul Wadud, BDR sector commander of Rajshahi Col Mominur Rahman, Commander of Chapainawabganj Lt Col Jayed Hossain and Deputy Commissioner KM Ali Azam were present.

The state minister also addressed a gathering of imams in the northwestern frontier-district town and said militants tried to spread terrorism and militancy in the country after the assassination of independence leader Bangabandhu.

“None will be spared if found involved in crimes. The law-enforcing agencies have been instructed to take actions against the wrongdoers. Fifteen Chhatra League leaders and activists were expelled from the party for their involvement in Jahangirnagar University incidents,” Tuku told the Islamic leaders.

Earlier, the state minister attended a meeting of the district law-and-order committee in the DC’s conference room.
