DHAKA: Three doctors of Eastern Hospital in the city were arrested amid a row over the death of a wounded patient allegedly for the physicians’ negligence early Friday.

Dr Amjad Ali, Dr Hashem Tareque and Dr Syed Hossain Sayeed Ahmed Ali were sent to jail following a court order.

SI Shihabuddin of Mohammadpur police station told banglanews24.com.bd that one Nasirul Haque, 39, of Pallabi was rushed to Eastern Hospital on Thursday night with serious injuries sustained in a road accident. Later, he died at 11pm.

“Enraged by the death of the patient under treatment, his relatives kicked up the dust and vandalized the hospital,” witnesses were quoted as saying.
Mohammadpur police went to the spot and quelled the trouble. They also arrested the doctors from the hospital on charge of not providing adequate treatment to Nasirul and neglect of duty.

Victim’s father, Fazlul Haque, filed a case with Mohammadpur thana.
Investigating Officer (IO) of the case Abu Zafar M Mahfuzul Haque said police produced the three physicians before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court with three days remand prayers.

But the court rejected the remand plea and sent them to jail.
