NARSINGDI: Power loom workers here continued their strike for the fourth straight day on Friday to press home their demands including regularisation of jobs and pay-hike.

All about 20,000 power looms in the area including Chowala, Shilmandri, Bilashdi remained closed till 4:30 Friday.

Besides, the loom workers of Char Aralia union expressed solidarity with the strike.

The loom workers under the banner of Narsingdi Textile Worker’s Federation went on the strike on July 13.

Meanwhile, the agitating loom workers did not declare any new programs to realise their demands.

President of the workers’ Federation Abdur Rahman claimed that loom owners and district administration were reluctant to take any initiative for resolving the problem.

“Police have been deployed in the textile mill area to foil the strike”, he alleged.

President of district Textile Mill Owners Association AKM Fazlul Haq, however, told banglanews24.com.bd that general loom workers are not supporting the strike.

They want to work but they are being resisted by the strikers, he said.
