City restaurant fire kills young girl

DHAKA: Rukhsana Akhter, a young girl burned to death and five others were injured in a devastating fire that broke out at Déjà vu Café, a Chinese Restaurant in Gulshan Avenue in the capital on Saturday night.

Ruksana was a student of 2nd year of BA in English, at city’s Titumir Government College. She was a daughter of Abdus Salam of Konapara-Mominbag in city’s Jatrabari area, had gone to the restaurant to attend a family programme.

Abdur Rashid, Deputy Director of Fire Service said, `the fire originated from electric short circuit at about 9pm in 2nd floor and soon engulfed the other floors at the restaurant.’

He said, `Some people managed to come out. But Rukhsana and five people have fallen victim of the devastating smoke and blaze of the fire in the restaurant.’

Four vans of firefighters rushed to the spot and frantically tried to extinguish the flame. They managed to put down the flame at about 10:30pm after their hectic efforts, Abdur Rashid added.  

`The lady was found unconscious after the fire had been put out at around 10:30 pm and was rushed to hospital’,  Md. Kamal Uddin, Acting Officer-In-Charge, Gulshan police station told banglanews24.com.bd on Saturday night.

Five other injured were admitted at United Hospital with critical condition. But the duty doctors declared Rukhsana death in the hospital, he added.
