Elephant kills farmer in Bandarban

BANDARBAN: A farmer was killed as a contingent of angry elephant attacked him at Baishfari village under Naikkhongchhori upazila of the district early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Kabir Ahmed 52, son of late Ula Mia of the area.

Local Union Parishad (UP) member Abdur Rahim said that the victim was attacked by a contingent of wild elephants while he was coming home from local market at midnight. The elephants trampled and smashed him mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot.

However, another farmer was killed by wild elephants two days ago.

Following the incidents, panic prevailing in the area.

Locals opined that wild elephants often come to localities in search of food due to food shortage and forests have shrunk day by day.

Naikkhongchhori police station Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
