Gatherings banned for people’s security

DHAKA: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed categorically said that police imposed ban on all types of rally, processions in the capital for security of people.

He came up with assertion while addressing a relief goods distribution programme in Hazaribagh Beribadh area in the capital at around 12:30pm Sunday.

Benazir Ahmed said, “We had no alternative to impose ban on gatherings for people’s security as it was directed to bring machetes and axes in the rally of BNP on October 25.”

He also said that there was no political connection with the restriction.

Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed a ban on holding any kind of meeting, procession and rally in the capital for an indefinite period from Sunday morning to avert anarchy and confrontation.
