DHAKA: Awami League and Jatiya Party will participate separately in the election under interim government next, if BNP does not participate.
The decision was taken in the meeting of high ups of the both parties on Sunday night.
General Secretary of Awami league and Jatiya Party Secretary General in a press briefing said that Awami league and Jatiya party will hold the upcoming national election jointly.
Syed Ashraf said Jatiya Party would compete against AL in the next election if BNP boycotts the polls; otherwise, the AL-led grand alliance would remain intact. And the newly elected government will take power in January.
Over election date, Awami league general secretary also said that they already had discussed with Jatiya Party and the discussion would be continued with others parties of 14-paty alliance on current political situations.
In the joint press briefing, Ruhul Amin Hawlader said that they discussed about various ambiguity on Prime Minister’s proposals.
Earlier, a 16-member delegation of Jatiya Party led by HM Ershad went to Gano Bhaban where they discussed over one hour with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Awami League leaders Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofayel Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Kazi Zafarullah, Mohammad Nasim, HT Imam, Alauddin Ahmed Tarique Sidique, Faruk Khan, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Hasan Mahmud and Mrinal Kanti Das attended the meeting.
