DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wednesday urged opposition BNP leader Khaleda Zia not to celebrate her ‘so-called’ birthday on August 15 and termed the celebration cruel.
Sheikh Hasina came up with the urge while addressing a programme to mark Sheikh Russel’s 50th birthday organized by Sheikh Russell Jatiya Shishu-Kishore Parishad at Bangabandhu International conference centre.
She criticized Khaleda Zia for celebrating her birthday on August 15, the National Mourning Day, and saying, “She has several birthdays listed in various official documents, none of which is August 15 and it is her cruelty.”
Commemorating the childhood of younger brother Sheikh Russel, the Premier said, “Dissatisfied anti-liberation force assassinated my family including 10-year-old Russel and it is the world’s one of the most heinous acts of brutality.”
“Russel was a heavenly one in our family, intelligent and gentle and he wanted to serve nation as an army officer and I don’t want to see any fate like my brother.” She added.
