5 killed in Tangail road crashes

TANGAIL: At least five people, including a couple, were killed and six others injured in two separate road accidents in the district on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as local Awami League leader Mainul Haque, 70, his wife Shamsunnahar, 60, driver Jamil Hossain 35, Abu Daud, 50 and Monir Hossain, 15, son of Montu Mia of Chauhali Sirajganj district.

Sources said three people were killed in a road accident near Charpara area on Dhaka-Tangail highway under Mirzapur upazila in the morning.

Witnesses said a Dhaka-bound Pajero jeep hit a roadside tree as its driver lost control over the steering in Charpara area, leaving three people dead on the spot and four others injured of a family.

Officer-in-Charge of Mirzapur Gorai Highway Thana Jubayer confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In another incident, two people were killed and two others injured at Konabari of Nagorpur upazila under the district.

Sources said a truck fell into a roadside ditch in Konabari area as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving two workers dead on the spot and two others injured.

The injured were admitted to Nagorpur Upazila Health Complex.

Officer-in-Charge of Nagorpur Thana Monir Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
