JESSORE: A municipal unit Juba League leader was killed in BNP-Jamaat attack at Avoynagar in the district Sunday morning as the 18-party alliance started 3-day non-stop countrywide hartal.

The deceased was identified as Alamgir Hossain Shimul, 35, general secretary of Noapara municipal unit of Juba League, the youth wing of ruling Awami League.

Confirming the matter, Avoynagar police station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Abdus Salek told banglanews, “From a procession, BNP-Jamaat men launched attack on Alamgir, and chopped him randomly at around 9:00am, leaving him injured critically.”

Later, he was rushed to nearby highway police outpost and succumbed to his injuries there.

Party sources said the Juba League leader along with some party men took position in Noapara Ferry Ghat police outpost area as part of central anti-hartal programme.
