DHAKA: Bangladesh has been re-elected UNESCO executive board member for the sixth time. This country will be a member from 2014 to 2017.
Deputy Chief Information Officer of the Education Ministry Subadh Chandra Dhali told media that a total of 185 UNESCO member countries out of 195 cast their votes Wednesday at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
Getting 152 votes, Bangladesh became top fourth place among contesting seven countries in Asia-Pacific region in Group 4.
Seven countries contested for six vacant seats. The other newly elected member countries are China, India, Japan, Nepal and Turkmenistan.
A five-member team led by education secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury was present during the vote held in the 37th General Assembly.
