GAZIPUR: A readymade garment worker was killed and over 100 were injured, including six bullet hit, in a sporadic clash between agitated workers and police in Ashulia and Hemayetpur industrial areas of Savar on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Badsha Mia, a worker of GMAX factory.
Sources said the clash triggered while workers of Standard Group placed 10-point demand and they locked into clash with members of factory administration.
The agitated workers also vandalized the factory in a bid to create pressure for realizing their demands, said a spot account of the incident.
The workers also countered law enforcers and blocked Hemayetpur-Keraniganj road.
Meanwhile, the agitations have also been erupted in Narshighapur, Jamgora, Shimultola and adjacent areas of the Ashulia industrial belt on the same demand.
Later, police opened fire rubber bullets, teargas shells and charged baton to bring the situation under control that left 100 workers injured.
Following the matter, Kashimpur Police Outpost Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam told banglanews: “We did not get the official information about the incident.”
