DHAKA: At least 13 people were killed in separate clashes between police and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir and another in an attack of masked men.
Our Nilphmari correspondent reports: Five people were killed as wacky Jamaat-Shibir activists attacked the motorcade of Asaduzzaman Noor, also eminent actor, near Ramganj Bazar area under the district on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Tupmari union Juba League organizing secretary Farhad Hossain, 26, Krishok League President Khorshed Alam Chowdhwry, 50, Siddique, a BNP activist, Awami League activist Lebu Mia, 35, and Chhatra League activist Murad Hossain.
Nilphamari (Sadar Circle) Assistant Police Super (ASP) Shafiul Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
However, sources told banglanews that scores were injured severely in the attack and several vehicles were vandalized.
Injured Chhatra League men Liton,30, Ripon, 25, Habibur Rahman,25, Awami League men Shaheedul Islam kand Jyatirmoy Roy, 35 were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Witnesses said Jamaat-Shibir activists attacked motorcade of Nilphamari-2 constituency lawmaker Noor around 5.00pm while he was returning home after visiting the Jamaat-Shibir rampaged in Polashbari, Tupmari and Laxmichap union’s at Sadar upazila.
Asaduzzaman Noor also addressed a protest rally against the recent nationwide violent activities by Jamaat activists at Laxmichap Kachari High School ground
Our Noakhali correspondent reports: At least seven people were killed in a clash with law enforcers in Basurhat under Companiganj of the district on Saturday afternoon.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately as the some jargons arose on the matter. Shibir claimed that all of the dead were member of the organization.
The deceased were identified as Saiful Islam, Motiur Rahman, Rassel, Sajib, Raihan, Shahidul and Mitul.
As per the district Sadar branch Shibir President Neyamot Ullah’s claim, six Jamaat-Shibir activists killed amid the deadly clash, though police said three.
Witnesses said the clash triggered while Jamaat–Shibir activists attacked law enforcers from a protest procession in protest against the hang of war criminal Jamaat Leader Quader Mollah.
Later, police opened fire several rounds of rubber bullets and teargas shells to thwart Jamaat-Shibir assault attempts.
Officer-in-Charge of Companiganj Thana Sajedur Rahman Sajid confirmed the matter to banglanews.
He said, “Three bodies were recovered from the troublesome area and another injured were rushed to the nearby hospital.”
On the other hand, an Awami League activist Nazrul Islam, 40, was chopped to death by masked men at around 11:00pm in Kanaighat of Sylhet while he was returning home after a procession in protest against anarchy of Jamaat-Shibir.
