DHAKA: The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by Jamaat-e-Islami, is underway across the country on Sunday amid stray incidents of blast, arson and clashes with law enforcers.
The party is observing the shutdown protesting the execution of war crime convict Quader Mollah.
Shibir men brought out a brisk procession in capital’s Jatrabari area at around 7:00am and set fire to a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
In Rajshahi, at least 10 people were injured in a clash between activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shinbir and law enforcers in Binodonpur area under Rajshahi at around 7:15am.
Local sources said that Shibir activists brought out a pro-hartal procession and blasted couple of cocktails.
Besides, capital’s Gulshan, Mohakhali, Farmgate, Karwanbazar, Shahbagh, Pressclub, Motijheel, Purana Paltan, Malibagh, Rampura, Badda, Notun Bazar area were seen almost normal.
Ours Correspondent Abu Talha informed that all types of vehicles service from Mirpur to Saidabad-Jatrabari-Gulistan remained normal.
Apprehending subversive act law enforcers were seen patrolling in key points of the capital.
