GP employees threaten strike

DHAKA: Employees of Grameenphone (GP), the leading private mobile phone operator of the country, threatened to go on work abstention if their demands are not met by Thursday.

The agitating officials and staffers of GP declared the program from their sit-in demonstration on Thursday morning in front of head office of Grameenphone in Bashundhara Residential Area.

The demands include – regularization of their job and implementation of Workers Act 2006.

Grameenphone Limited Workers Employees Union Bangladesh Parisad member Ashraf told banglanews, “We have been staging demonstrations to press home the demand for long. Earlier, the authority sacked more than hundred of workers illegally.”

“On September 2013, the court asked authorities concerned to implement the Workers Act 2006 in response to appeal of the employees.  But Grameenphone authority did not follow the court order.
So, we are staging the demonstration to wage our demands, he added.

Hundreds officials-staffs led-by Union President Anisul Haque Khokan attended the sit-in program.
