Fans-cops clash hurt 30 in N’ganj

NARAYANGANJ: At least 30 people were injured in a clash between cricket fans and police in Narayanganj on Friday morning.

Witnesses said that around 300 fans were waiting from early Friday in front of United Commercial Bank ltd, Chashara Branch for tickets of the third match which will be held on November 3 between Bangladesh and New Zealand at Fatulla Osman Ali Stadium.

At 8:00am, security guard told them that tickets will be sold on Saturday.

Hearing this, crickets fans blocked adjacent road and vandalized 12/13 vehicles. On information police rushed to the spot and tried to disperse them which erupted a clash.

Cricket fans locked into chase and counter chase and hurled brick chips aiming police. Later police fired rubber bullets to take the situation under control, leaving 30 including police personnel injured.

Police arrested nine people from the spot on allegation of vandalism.

Officer-in-Charge of Narayanganj Model Thana Monjur Kader confirmed the matter to banglanews.
