Professionals hold human chain in city

DHAKA: Bangladesh Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad, an organization for different professionals, formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club on Tuesday protesting the deteriorated law-and-order situation in the country.

Advisor to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, journalist Shawkat Mahmud, former president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Ruhul Amin Gazi, Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) leader Dr Zahidul Islam Zahid and Chairman of Shikshak-Karmachari Oikya Jote Selim Bhuiyan also spoke at the program.

The speakers protested recent tortures, abductions and murders in the country.

Ruhul Amin Gazi said the seven murder case of Narayanganj has become a farce in the name of justice. He also doubted on fair justice in this case.

Dr Zahidul Islam Zahid termed the government as farcical and illegal.

However, the protest rally and the human chain were covered by hundreds of law enforcers to avert untoward situations.
