BNP slams attack on NCP rally, calls for immediate arrests

The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has strongly condemned a violent attack on the Nationalist Citizen’s (NCP) rally in Gopalganj.

He also accused supporters of the Awami League and banned Chhatra Leagueof orchestrating the assault in an effort to destabilize the country.

In a statement issued Wednesday (July 16), BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described the attack on the NCP’s previously announced ‘March to Gopalganj’ program as a “heinous and barbaric act” carried out by “terrorists of the Awami fascist regime.”
Fakhrul alleged that the ruling party, rattled by growing public discontent and the recent fall of its “dictatorial grip” in student-led movements, is once again resorting to violence to create political instability and maintain its grip on power.

“The explosion of cocktails, torching of vehicles belonging to the UNO and law enforcement, and the injury of police personnel are evidence of a broader plan to plunge the country into chaos,” he stated.

He further warned that the country's law and order situation is deteriorating rapidly, accusing Awami League allies of attempting to exploit the situation to undermine the interim government and stir further unrest.

“There is no alternative but to suppress these miscreants with a firm hand,” said Fakhrul.

He called on all sections of society, regardless of political affiliation, to unite in defense of democracy, the right to vote, and public safety.

“If we fail to resist fascism now, the country may once again face serious threats to its independence and sovereignty,” he warned.

The BNP leader demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the attack on the NCP program.

He also expressed sympathy for the injured police officers, wishing them a speedy recovery.
