LAKSHMIPUR: Miscreants slaughtered to death a local leader of Awami League (AL) in Sadar upazila of the district early Thursday.

The slain leader was identified as Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, 50, president of Charshahi Union Parishad AL unit, hailed from Bhuiyan Bari at Rampur village of the union.

Union AL general secretary Kajol confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Family and local sources said, “Mannan went out of home following a call over cell phone; later at around 12:00am Thursday, locals found the slit-throat body beside his home.”

Being informed, police recovered the body at the dawn.

Dasher Haat police outpost In-Charge Sub-Inspector (SI) M Kamal Hossen told banglanews, the body was sent to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy following the recovery.”

“Legal actions would be taken after investigation,” added the SI.
