2 AL leaders killed in Lakshmipur

LAKSHMIPUR: Miscreants killed two local leaders of ruling Awami League (AL) in Sadar and Raipur upazilas of the district on Thursday.

The slain were identified as Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, 50, president of Charshahi Union Parishad AL unit, hailed from Bhuiyan Bari at Rampur village of the union and Abdul Mozid, 47, general secretary of Raipur municipality ward no. 2 unit Awami League.

Charshahi Union AL general secretary Kajol and Dasher Haat police camp In-Charge Sub-Inspector (SI) M Kamal Hossen confirmed the killing of Mannan to banglanews separately.

Relatives of Mannan said, “He went out of home following a call over cell phone at 11:00am on Wednesday; later locals found the slit-throat body beside his home at around 12:00am Thursday.”

Being informed, police recovered the body at the dawn.

Meanwhile, police recovered the body of Mozid at Charpata Union of Raipur upazila at 7:00am after the locals found it lying on a road and informed the cops at the dawn.

Victims’ cousin Advocate Mizanur Rahman alleged, this is a planned killing, and he was strangled to death.

Declining to make comments on the killing, Raipur thana Sub-Inspector, M Abul Bashar, told banglanews, “No hit or injure marks were found on the body following the primary investigation, legal actions would be taken after autopsy.”

The bodies were sent to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for post mortem examinations.
