RANGPUR: The law enforcers detained 55 people, including two Chhatra Shibir leaders, in the district from Saturday night to Sunday morning.

The arrestees are accused in several cases, including drugs trade, extortion, terrorism, convicted and fugitive convicts, dacoit and murder.

Kotwali police sources said they were arrested in separate drives from Kawnia, Gongachara, Pirgachha, Mithapukur, Taraganj, Badarganj, Pirganj, Sadar and Metropolitan area of the district.

The law enforcers also recovered Phensidyl and liquor from their possessions.

Senior officer Shariful Islam of Rangpur Detective Branch police said they arrested two Shibir leaders from Pirgachha area early Sunday suspecting of making sabotage in the area.

Later, the arrestees were sent to the jail, he added.
