KHULNA: Local units of Jamaat-e-Islami observed day-long hartal in Koyra and Paikgachha Upazilas of the district in a relaxed mood on Monday.

The party called the strike protesting the detention of Khulna District (South) Unit Jamaat Ameer, also Koyra Upazila Parisad Chairman Maulana AKM Tamiz Uddin and case against its Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Liakot Ali, Paikgachha Upazila Jamaat Secretary SM Aminul Islam and others.

Spot accounts said that most of the shops were seen closed and vehicles were not seen plying on roads.

Besides, Jamaat-Shibir activists brought out brisk processions at various spots of the two upazilas but no untoward situation was reported.

Koyra Thana Officer-in-Charge Subir Dutta told banglanews, they deployed additional three platoons Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in both the upazilas.
