Tarique’s PS Opu gets bail

DHAKA: The High Court on Monday granted six months bail to Miah Nur Uddin alias Opu, personal secretary (PS) to BNP senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman, in an extortion case.

A vacation bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Mahmudul Haque passed the order.

Advocate Zoynul Abedin and Advocate Sagir Hossain Leone moved in the court on behalf of Opu.

Opu won’t be released from the jail as there are other cases against him.

Earlier on March 8, 2007, contractor Amin Ahmed filed an extortion case against Miah Nur Uddin alias Opu with Gulshan Thana.

After spending seven years’ fugitive life in Malaysia, Opu returned home on June 17 and surrendered before the court on June 18 with a bail plea.

Rejecting his bail plea, the court sent him to jail.
