Posthumous trial for Zia

DHAKA: Late President Ziaur Rahman will face posthumous trial as he ruled the country as an agent of Pakistan and was indirectly involved with Bangabandhu murder, said Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque.

He made the remark while addressing a programme, arranged by Swadhinota Shikkhok Parisad at National Press Cub on Tuesday, to commemorate the 39th death anniversary of Sheikh Mujib.

The minister said, “Rashid, Dalim and others had killed Bangabandhu but those who unified the killers are more responsible. Zia prized Bangabanshu’s killers during his tenure.”

Incumbent AL leader also termed Zia as “by chance” freedom fighter.

Primary and Mass Education Affairs Minister Advocate Mostafizur Rahman in his speech said “Zia sent Bangabandhu’s killers to various Bangladesh missions and was connected with the family members of the killers.”

“In countrymen’s mind, Zia is the beneficiary of Bangabandhu’s murder though this was not written in history,” Mostafizur Rahman added.

With Swadhinota Shikkhok Parisad president Professor Dr Abdul Mannan Chowdhury in the chair, member secretary of the organization Principal M Shahjahan Ali Saju, Professor Moniruzzaman, noted actor ATM Shamsuzzaman, Principal MA Awal Siddiq and Principal Abdur Rashid, among others, spoke in the program.
