Constitution amended to keep justices in pressure

DHAKA: Supreme Court Bar Association President Advocate Khanadaker Mahbub Hossain on Wednesday said to give the power of impeachment of judges of the higher court to the parliament is an “evil effort”.

“This is a bad effort by the government to keep the justices under pressure. The Supreme Court Bar Association will stage demonstration against the government move,” he said.

The adviser to BNP Chairperson made the observation while talking to journalists after a view exchange meeting with senior lawyers of the association.

He also said, “This is an effort to partisanise the administration as it was done in 1974.”

BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Advocate ADM Nurul Islam, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, former president of the association AJ Mohammad Ali and former secretary Saidur Rahman were among others present at the meeting.
