'Govt hides grenade-attack masterminds'

DHAKA: Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association president Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain blamed the government for prepared the list of 175 accused in August 21 grenade attack case hiding the masterminds.

He alleged the objective of the government attempt is to serve ‘political purposes’.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson’s advisor made the assertion while addressing a discussion as a chief guest at National Press Club on Friday.

Bangladesh Republican Forum organized the discussion titled “Proposed Sixteenth Amendment Bill and Basic Rights”. 

Alleging that judicial department is being politicized, Mahbub said justices are facing threats while giving judgment though judiciary is the safeguard of independence.

He also said as Awami League has no relation with the democracy, the party destroys democracy as soon as it comes to power. Former president Ziaur Rahman saved the independence of Bangladesh establishing the rule of law.

President of Bangladesh Republican Forum Abul Kalam chaired the program where Juba Dal President Sayed Moazzem Hossain Alal and president of Swadhinata Forum Abu Naser Mohammad, among others, were present.
