Last nail in coffin of democracy

DHAKA: The government pressed the last nail in the coffin of democracy by approving the 16th charter amendment proposal restoring parliament’s authority to impeach Supreme Court judges for irregularities.

Bangladesh nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Lieutenant General (retd) Mahbubur Rahman made the remarks in a memorial discussion.

The title was “Broadcast Policy & Decision on Parliament Impeachment: Media & Democracy on Treat” organized by Bangladesh NAP in National Press Club’s VIP lounge in Friday.

Addressing the incumbent government ‘fake’, Mahbubur said the MP’s are ‘fake’ as they are not elected by the people. The government handed the power to impeach Supreme Court judges for irregularities through the amendment to the ‘fake’ MPs.
