DHAKA: BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said his party chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is now in jail, will not take medical treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital.
He made the remarks at a press briefing in party’s Nayapaltan central office on Sunday afternoon (June 10).
Earlier on Saturday afternoon (June 9), four of Khaleda’s personal physician, after examining her health in Dhaka central jail, said she suffered a mild stroke on June 5. They have also recommended to authorities for admitting Khaleda in a specialized hospital outside of jail.
In response, Attorney General Muhbubey Alam on Sunday told reporters that Khaleda’s doctors’ claim about her stroke is not accurate. Her blood sugar went down and later given chocolate to fix it.
Later at noon, Law Minister Anisul Huq said, “Khaleda will be taken to BSMMU to check whether she suffered a stroke.”
In response to government’s decision, Rizvi said the chairperson had sought treatment at united Hospital earlier. They had necessary medical equipment and she will be comfortable there. We demand to take her there as soon as possible.
