‘Khaleda to be taken to CMH, if BNP wants’

DHAKA: If BNP wants, its Chairperson Khaleda Zia will be taken to Combined Military Hospital (CMH), said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal Tuesday (June 12).

“There is no scope to ignore CMH, because it is a resourceful hospital,” he said.

The minister made the remark after receiving a letter from a 3-member BNP team at the secretariat.

Shamim Iskander, brother of Khaleda Zia, submitted an application to the home minister at noon, requesting him to admit Khaleda Zia at United Hospital.

“My elder sister has been imprisoned in Dhaka central jail. She is suffering from multiple diseases. But she is not receiving necessary treatment there. Therefore, her health conditions have deteriorated. Her (Khaleda Zia) four physicians informed us that she suffered a mild stroke. Such a health issue is a portent of major health risks,” Shamim Iskander said.

Earlier in the day, Khaleda Zia refused to have treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), which was arranged by the government.

On February 8, a Dhaka court sentenced BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to five years imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

She was sent to Dhaka central jail following the verdict.
