Khaleda won’t take treatment at CMH: Fakhrul BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the press conference

DHAKA: Expressing fear that the jailed BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia might be paralyzed anytime, party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir categorically said she (Khaleda) will not take treatment from Combined Military Hospital or CMH.

He made the remarks at a press conference in party’s Naya paltan central office on Sunday noon (June 17).

He said, “We came to know from the family members, who met with Khaleda Zia in jail on Eid day (June 16), that her physical condition has worsened. She can’t walk by herself. Under the circumstances, we are urging the government to take her to United Hospital for better treatment.”

A week ago, Khaleda Zia fell ill in jail as her blood sugar level dropped. BNP leaders are urging the government to take her to United Hospital from the beginning. However, government has initially offered to take her to BSMMU and later CMH. However, BNP has refused both.

Fakhrul said Khaleda Zia is a leader of the people and her life is extremely valuable to us. We will release her from through movement.

Earlier in February, a Dhaka court has sentenced five years imprisonment to Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She was sent to central jail in Dhaka’s old town following the verdict.
