DHAKA: General Secretary of ruling Awami League Obaidul Quader said the election-time government is likely to be formed in October.
Obaidul Quader, also, Road Transport and Bridges Minister made the remark following a post Eid discussion at Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) ministry on Wednesday (June 20).
“The election-time government will take up its responsibility as soon as election schedule is announced. Election-time government doesn’t mean formation of a new government. The current government will assume office of the polls-time government,” Obaidul Quader said.
Regarding size of polls-time government, he said,” The size of the election-time government will not be that big. The size of the cabinet will also be small. However, the matter is entirely under the authority of Prime Minister. She (Sheikh Hasina) will make final decision about it”
Asked about possibilities of one-party election if BNP doesn’t join polls, he said, “No one-party election to be held. A large number of parties will participate in elections. So, why election is to be questioned if BNP doesn’t participate? Election Commission will conduct election. It’s the EC, which will come under criticism if it breaches laws of constitution. Destruction will not seize to happen, if BNP pretends to be blind.”
Addressing BNP he said, “Why do you fear national election. You don’t fear city polls.”
