DHAKA: The High Court fixed Monday (July 25) for appeal hearing in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case filed against BNP Chief Khaleda Zia.
An HC bench of Justices Enayetur Rahim and Md Mostafijur Rahman fixed this day following a petition (mention) of The Anti Corruption Commission filed on Sunday (June 23).
ACC lawyer Kurshid Alom Khan said appeal has to be settled by July 31 as per High Court order. For this reason, the appeal was mentioned on Sunday (July 24). The court, after accepting the mention, fixed Monday for order.
The Appellate Division passed the verdict on May 16 after upholding the High Court order that granted bail to Khaleda Zia in the case.
However, on February 8, a Dhaka court sentenced five years’ imprisonment to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia orphanage Trust graft case.
She was sent to Dhaka central jail following the verdict.
The Zia Orphanage Trust case was filed by Anti-Corruption Commission in July 2008, accusing the six of misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore of foreign grant money.
