DHAKA: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged the government has snatched the victory of BNP in Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls, in cooperation with the Election Commission (EC).
Fakhrul was addressing a press briefing around 11am Wednesday (June 27).
“Our victory was snatched through vote-robbery. No election can be held acceptable under Awami League ruling,” he said.
However, Awami League candidate Md Jahangir Alam has won the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) mayoral polls by a big margin, according to unofficial results.
Jahangir bagged 4,00,010 votes while his rival BNP candidate Hasan Uddin Sarker got 1,97,611 votes in the polls, Returning Officer at the makeshift EC office installed at Gazipur Bangataj Auditorium also Regional Election Officer (Dhaka) Rakib Uddin Mondol told Banglanews.
