DHAKA: BNP is giving false and baseless information regarding the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls only to make the polls questionable, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

Quader, also the Road Transport & Bridges Minister, was addressing a press briefing at Awami League President’s Political Office in Dhanmondi Wednesday morning (June 27).

“BNP didn’t accept the judgment of the people, rather are presenting false and baseless information before the nation,” he said.

“BNP has become desperate to make the polls questionable”  
 
“No incident of violence took place in Gazipur since the time of electioneering till the voting. A peaceful and fair election was held keeping harmony among all the candidates,” added Quader.

However, Awami League candidate Md Jahangir Alam has won the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) mayoral polls by a big margin, according to unofficial results.

Jahangir bagged 4,00,010 votes while his rival BNP candidate Hasan Uddin Sarker got 1,97,611 votes in the polls, Returning Officer at the makeshift EC office installed at Gazipur Bangataj Auditorium also Regional Election Officer (Dhaka) Rakib Uddin Mondol told Banglanews.
