DHAKA: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court extended its earlier order that stayed the bail given by the High Court to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, in a murder case filed in Comilla.
Besides, the court has ordered to settle the rule issued by the High Court regarding this, within four weeks.
The Appellate Division passed the order Monday (July 2) after settling a leave-to-appeal filed by the state challenging the HC bail order. The hearing came to an end on June 24.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state while Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, AJ Mohammad Ali and Zainul Abedin moved for Khaleda Zia, at the courtroom.
Earlier on May 28, the High Court granted bail for six months to BNP chief Khaleda Zia in two cases filed in Comilla.
Later, the state filed a petition with the Supreme Court Appellate Division seeking a stay on the bail order.
During the BNP-led alliance's movement on February 3 in 2015, eight people were killed and 20 others injured as miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chouddagram of Comilla.
Two cases were filed against Khaleda following the incident.
