DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called for a peaceful solution to the quota reform movement through talks with the protesters and an immediate unconditional release of the detained agitators and leaders.
Fakhrul made the demands in a statement sent to media on Monday (July 2).
Expressing strong condemnation of the attacks on quota protesters, he said the anti-public activities of the ruling Awami League have come out in a ghastly manner and that is why they are oppressing the demands of the people with utmost atrocity.
He also said the promise of quota reformation Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made to the agitators has not been kept. Now the student wing of ruling party, Bangladesh Chhatra League, is attacking the demonstrators.
Assaulting and arresting of protesters is a proof of sick mentality and no citizen concerned should accept such behavior from the government, Fakhrul added.
