Khaleda’s bail extended till July 17 in Charitable case

DHAKA: A Dhaka court extended bail till July 17 (Tuesday) for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

Judge Dr Md Akhteruzzaman of Dhaka Special Judge’s court-5 passed the order on Tuesday (July 10) following a bail petition filed by Khaleda’s lawyers.

Prior to this, Khaleda Zia was on bail till July 10. On behalf of Khaleda Zia, her lawyer Sanaullah Mia pleaded for extending the bail.

Lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kajal, on behalf of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), told reporters that Khaleda Zia has been absent for 150 days in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

The court procedure could be done, if she was brought to the court by law, he said.

ACC filed the graft case against Khaleda and three others with Tejgaon police station on August 8, 2010 for embezzling Tk3.15 crore from Zia Charitable Trust.

Earlier on February 8, the same court sentenced five years’ imprisonment to Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She was sent to Dhaka central jail following the verdict.

Since then, she has been in jail.
